How big are the pins?

They are about the same thickness as one of your hairs, and vary in length from about 3cm to 10cm.

Are the pins safe?

Yes, most definitely! All pins used in my practice are sterile, single-use pins that are safely individually packaged in clear insertion tubes and immediately disposed of in a standard sharps container after use.

Does it hurt?

You may experience little or no discomfort during the insertion of the acupuncture pins. If you feel anything upon insertion, it will be nothing more than a mosquito bite. So, if you can handle a mosquito bite, you can handle acupuncture.

Below each acupoint is a pool of qi or life force, and as the pin contacts it, you may feel a warmth, cooling, dull ache, or a sense of pressure. You will come to associate this feeling with an effective treatment.

If anything feels uncomfortable, be sure to let me know so the pin may be adjusted to comfort. The treatment may last from ten to forty minutes, depending on your and on the problem being treated.

What should I do before coming to an appointment?

Please eat before your treatment. Please refrain from brushing your tongue for several days before your appointment as the coating on your tongue can help me better diagnose your condition.

More info can be found here

Should I tell my acupuncturist about the prescription drugs I'm taking?

Yes, definitely! Be sure to also mention if you are pregnant, have cosmetic or surgical implants of any kind such as pins used to mend a broken bone or if you have a pacemaker. Before your first treatment, I will consult with you, take a complete medical history and perform several evaluations such as checking your pulses and examining your tongue coat.

Feel free to speak with me about any health concerns you have.
